After many years in management at Walmart and Sam's Club, Celeste Steiner came out of semi-retirement to become the Director of the Platteville Thrift Shop in February, 2024. The mission of the Platteville Thrift Shop is to be the premier resale shop in the Tri-State area through sharing, caring and volunteering. The Thrift Shop accepts gently used clothing, shoes, jewelry, undamaged children's books, household goods, small appliances, jewelry, furniture and hardware. Since 1972, they have offered vouchers for those in need, mainly through churches. They receive a lot in donations but also give a lot back. They give grants on a monthly basis to community non-profit organizations.
The business has 13 employees and 40 volunteers. They take pride in how everyone works well together and gets along. They are busting at the seams in their current facility on Lancaster Street and have hopes for a larger building in the future.
