Optimist Member Mark Essex (pictured in center) is also a volunteer at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium (NMRMA). Mark invited Melissa Wersinger, Tourism and Volunteer Manager for NMRMA to speak to our Club. Melissa (pictured on the left) explained that volunteers help with every aspect of their organization. In 2023 they had 362 volunteers who worked 8,500 hours for a total value of $270,300. They have approximately 150 active volunteers, who fill out and application and work on a continuing basis. They also have episodic volunteers, who may only work one time for a special event.
