Optimists are Updated on the Upcoming Pool Referendum

Dianne Jentz

L-R: Bob Gates from the Platteville Aquatic Recreation Subcommittee (PARS); Bob Gates, City Manager Clint Langreck and Optimist President Bob Hundhausen

Bob Gates is one of eleven members of PARS. The committee, along with Platteville's City Manager and Rec Director, have been meeting every two weeks since August. Bob shared the history and current condition/damage of the pool and spoke about PARS responsibilities, how they engaged with the community, assessed the current location and other options, and presented concepts and recommendations to the City for a new aquatic center. He stated they had over 1400 responses to a Community Survey last fall with 92% of the respondents stating it's important for Platteville to have a community pool that would be used by a wide range of age groups and for a variety of purposes. The current location in addition to five alternative sites were considered based on location, elevation, current uses, proximity to parks and school, convenience and safety of travel with the current location selected and determined to be the best option to move forward with. The referendum will be on the ballot in the April election.
