Sue Leamy Kies: Teacher, Author, and Volunteer

Updated: Aug 17

Sue Leamy Kies graduated from Platteville High School and then returned to teach high school English twenty years later. In her memoir, My Homecoming Dance: Reflections on Teaching in Wisconsin, Sue shares her experiences and provides a humorous, behind-the-scenes look at secondary public education.

Sue talked to us about the process of writing a book and read excerpts from her book. She has also published poetry, essays, movie reviews and short stories.

Sue is an active volunteer with the Platteville Community Arboretum (PCA). She wrote a children's book, Sassy's Vacation, to promote nature education. The proceeds from the sale of the book go to PCA for upkeep of the Rountree Branch Trail. Learn more about Sue and her work at https://www.sueleamykies.com/.
